How to use Scientific Calculator

  1. Type an expression such as 2*(3+4)^2, or build it with the keypad.
  2. The answer appears as you type. Press = or Enter to keep it in the history and use Ans to reuse it.
  3. Choose degrees or radians before using sin, cos or tan.
  4. Use Copy result to copy the answer.

About this tool

The calculator reads your expression with its own parser, so nothing is run as code. Operators are + − × ÷ and ^ (power). Multiplication can be left out in simple cases, for example 2(3+4) or 2pi. Functions need brackets: sin(30), sqrt(16), log(1000) (base 10), ln(e) (natural), cbrt(27), abs(-5).

Order of operations: brackets first, then factorials and percent, then powers, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. Note that -2^2 is −4 because the power is worked out before the minus sign. Answers are rounded to 12 significant digits, so tiny floating-point errors such as 0.1 + 0.2 do not show.

Privacy: This tool runs in your browser. What you type or choose is not sent to a server by this website.

Common questions

Degrees or radians?

Use degrees for everyday angles (a right angle is 90). Use radians for most advanced maths, where a half turn is π. The setting affects sin, cos, tan and their inverses.

What does % do?

It divides the number before it by 100, so 50% is 0.5 and 200*15% is 30.

What are the limits?

Factorials work up to 170. Results larger than about 1.8 × 10308 cannot be shown.
