About this tool

An exact age is useful for forms, school and sports categories, legal checks, pet ages, and just for fun. This calculator works out the full calendar difference between two dates rather than just subtracting the years.

The age is counted in whole years first, then whole months, then the remaining days. For example, from 15 January 2000 to 20 March 2025 is 25 years, 2 months and 5 days. If a birthday falls on a day that does not exist in a shorter month, the calculator uses the last day of that month.

People born on 29 February are counted as having their birthday on 1 March in years that are not leap years; laws and customs differ from country to country, so check official rules if the exact day matters. Dates are calculated using your device’s calendar date, with no time of day or time zone involved.

Common questions

How is the age calculated?

The calculator counts complete years, then complete months, then the remaining days, between the date of birth and the second date.

Can I find the age on a date in the past or future?

Yes. Change the second date. It cannot be earlier than the date of birth.

What happens if I was born on 29 February?

In years without a 29 February, the next-birthday countdown uses 1 March.

Is my date of birth stored?

No. It is used only on this page, in your browser, and is not saved or sent anywhere.
