About this tool
An exponent tells you how many times to multiply the base by itself: 210 = 1,024. A negative exponent gives the reciprocal (2−3 = 1/8) and an exponent of 0.5 gives the square root.
A negative base with a decimal exponent has no real answer, and 0 to a negative power is undefined. Results beyond about 1.8 × 10308 cannot be calculated.
