About this tool
The mean is the sum divided by the count. The median is the middle value when the numbers are sorted (the average of the two middle values if there is an even count). The mode is the value that appears most often. The range is the largest minus the smallest.
The standard deviation shows how spread out the numbers are. The population version divides by n and is used when your list is the whole group; the sample version divides by n − 1 and is used when your list is a sample of a larger group.

Common questions
Which average should I use?
The mean is best for evenly spread data. The median is better when a few very large or small values would distort the mean, such as incomes or house prices.
Can I paste a column from a spreadsheet?
Yes. Each new line is read as a separate number.
