About this tool

Resizing is useful for fitting a photo into a profile picture or website banner, making a picture small enough to email, or preparing images for a form that asks for exact dimensions.

With Keep the aspect ratio ticked, changing the width also changes the height by the same proportion, so the picture is not squashed or stretched. Turn it off only if you really want to force exact width and height, which can distort the image.

Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it bigger than its original size cannot add detail, so enlarged images look softer or blurry. Images up to 10,000 pixels on a side (and about 100 megapixels in total) are supported, but very large sizes need a lot of memory and may fail on phones. The original file on your device is never changed.

Common questions

What does “aspect ratio” mean?

It is the proportion between width and height. Keeping it means the picture keeps the same shape when you change its size.

Will resizing reduce the file size?

Usually yes, because fewer pixels means less data. For the smallest file, also use the Image Compressor.

Why is my enlarged image blurry?

A resizer cannot invent detail that was never in the picture. Enlarging stretches the existing pixels, so it always looks softer.

Is my image uploaded?

No. It is resized inside your browser and never leaves your device.
