    About this tool

Different websites, programs and devices want different image formats. A form might only accept JPG, a design tool might need PNG for transparency, and a website might load faster with WebP. This tool changes the format without any software to install.

JPG is best for photos and does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the background colour you choose (white by default). PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency exactly, but photos saved as PNG can be large. WebP usually gives smaller files than both and supports transparency.

Converting a JPG or WebP picture to PNG does not bring back detail that was already lost; it only changes how the picture is stored, and the file can get much bigger. Converting between lossy formats (for example JPG to WebP) re-saves the image once more, which can lower quality slightly. Your original files are never changed. Saving as WebP needs a current version of Chrome, Edge or Firefox; if your browser cannot do it, the tool tells you.

Privacy: This tool runs in your browser. What you type or choose is not sent to a server by this website.

    Common questions

Can I convert a PNG with a transparent background to JPG?

Yes. JPG cannot be transparent, so the transparent areas are filled with the background colour you pick, white by default.

Why did my file get bigger after converting?

This often happens when a JPG or WebP photo is converted to PNG. PNG stores every pixel exactly, which takes more space. Choose WebP or JPG if you want smaller files.

    Does converting reduce image quality?

Converting to PNG does not lose quality, but it cannot restore quality that was already lost. Converting to JPG or WebP can reduce quality slightly, depending on the quality setting.

    Are my images uploaded?

No. They are converted inside your browser and never leave your device.
